Introduction to KATONAH YOGA®

9-10 March Girona (Barcelona)

Dages Juvelier Keates is recognized as senior teacher in the Katonah methodology developed over the past forty years by Nevine Michaan. She has recently published a seminal text on the Katonah practice, “Radical Acts of Embodiment.”

This workshop will introduce you to core Katonah practices and philosophy. Expect rigorous practice, hands on adjustments, exploration of restorative set ups, and our signature approach to pranayama, We will also take time to dive into the theoretical principles for rewiring neurology in the interest of more vital embodiment, Some Katonah principals include use of the magic square, wraps for rapture, the body as the magical abode, origami for bodies, reflections and revolutions. We will attend to there revelatory and therapeutic threads implicit to the weave of yoga.

KATONAH YOGA® was founded by Nevine Michaan, and is a Hatha yoga practice refined over forty years, blended with Taoist theory, sacred geometries, pranayama, and meditation. For more information, please visit www.katonahyoga.com.

About Dages

Dages has been teaching yoga for seventeen years and has had time to try to help, make mistakes, learn skills, and refine her techniques. She is known for her intense and imaginative pranayama teaching, which she applies to group and private classes. Private yoga sessions constitute the great majority of her teaching, and she has worked with an eclectic swath of New Yorkers during her career, from hedge fund managers to homemakers to hockey players.
Beginning in 2002, her studies have earned her accreditations in both the Bihar and Kundalini lineages. Her syncratic teaching style has been profoundly impacted by immersion in studies with her mentor Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga. Recent collaborations include a series of workshops with Elena Brower, and retreats and teacher trainings with veteran Katonah teacher Abbie Galvin, Sacred Fig founder Anton Brandt, and SKY TING co-founder Chloe Kernaghan in Bali, Dominican Republic, Germany, Greece, Panama, Morocco, Switzerland, and Vancouver. She has recently authored “Radical Acts of Embodiment: Teaching and Practices of Katonah Yoga.”

The studio will open half an hour before the scheduled time; you are welcome warm up ahead. Note that the timetable may vary slightly if agreed upon, e.g. shorter pause for lunch, but the finishing time will not exceed the time stated below.

In order to speed up the workshop, classes won't be translated from  English. You don't need to be fully proficient, thou; a reasonable level of understanding should be enough. We'll be happy to help with occasional words.

Girona and our studio

The workshop will be held in Espai de ioga. It's a beautiful studio in the the center of Girona, with amazing views on the river. We provide all the props you'll need, including mat (you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer), belts, blocks, blankets etc. This will be a small workshop compared to those of big cities, and places are limited by the yoga room. Our full address is here.

Girona is a beautiful historic city, about 1,30 hours by train North of Barcelona. The TGV connects to Barcelona in 30 minutes and Paris in 5 hours.

PLEASE BOOK AHEAD accommodation and transport, otherwise you may find it full. Here is a list of all accommodations (also youth hostel). You may also try apartments in airbnb or girorooms.

Remember that lunch is included in the workshop. There are many restaurants around the area; a focacceria just below the center provides good quality fast food, a vegan called OM for deserved reward and a normal quality L'arcada (beware of generous servings)
